Experience the best of Chinese culture at VivoCity with a myriad of cultural performances and unique art and crafts showcase

29 December 2010, Singapore – VivoCity welcomes the arrival of the auspicious Year of the Rabbit with a series of enchanting performances and intricate handicraft showcase that will immerse shoppers in the best of Chinese culture. Shoppers visiting Singapore’s largest and most iconic retail mall will be treated to graceful live demonstrations of art and tradition and even stand a chance to win trips to China!

To usher in the Chinese New Year, VivoCity has lined up a series of captivating performances featuring talented performers of award-winning troupes from Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan and Xiamen. Held at the Amphitheatre on Level 3 from 15 January to 20 February 2011, these performances will enable our shoppers to experience the artistic flair of the Chinese culture in a unique open-air theatre ambience.

Shoppers will also be able to learn more about the intricate Chinese Arts & Crafts such as Bean Art, Egg Shell Paintings, Roots Carving, Wheat Patchwork Arts, Grain Arts and handicrafts from Shaanxi, Tibet and more at the Arts & Crafts Fair. With more than 50 varieties available at VivoCity’s Central Court, shoppers will be able to take home beautiful oriental decorations to dress up their home, pick up some symbols of prosperity or simply appreciate the wealth of Chinese arts. The live demonstrations of Chinese painting and calligraphy demonstrations are also not to be missed.

The mall will be decorated with small clusters of lanterns in the auspicious colour of red and gold with a touch of floral prints to create a contemporary look this Chinese New Year. These decorations serve as a preview of the breathtaking Giant Rotating Lantern at the Sky Park on Level 3. One of the largest lanterns in Singapore, the 5.8 metre (19 feet) beacon of prosperity is truly a sight to behold.

This festive season, VivoCity will also be rewarding its shoppers. With a minimum spending of $30 at any VivoCity outlet between 14 January and 21 February 2011, shoppers will have one chance in the lucky draw to win the top prize of $8,000 travel vouchers to China. They can also redeem a pack of 6 specially-designed red packets with a minimum spending of $150. Shoppers who charge their purchases to their OCBC Credit/Debit Cards only need to spend $100 to qualify.
