5 July 2006, Singapore - VivoCity kicks off major recruitment efforts with a Job Fair from 14 and 15 July 2006 to fill more than 3,000 positions in food and beverage, retail and entertainment. This will form part of the estimated 7,000 workers required by Singapore's largest multi-dimensional retail and lifestyle destination when it opens in October 2006.
Supported by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), the VivoCity Job Fair will feature a diverse array of retail and service frontline professionals such as Sales/Customer Service Associates, Bartenders, Make up Artists, Manicurists, Hair Assistants and Crews, as well as professionals, managers and executives such as Shop Manager, Beauty Consultants, Optometrists and Sous Chefs. Those interested in unique occupations will also not be disappointed, as aspiring performers such as jugglers, dancers and musicians, are required to support the vibrant, year-round calendar of events and entertainment at VivoCity.
"With the opening of VivoCity just three months away, we understand the challenges that tenants face in recruiting large numbers of staff with the right personality, attitude and skills," says Wendy Low, General Manager of VivoCity. "The VivoCity Job Fair demonstrates our commitment to a strong partnership with our tenants by providing an ideal platform to interview job seekers en-masse. The VivoCity Job Fair also gives these job seekers a first hand view of VivoCity and the exciting offerings within.
" VivoCity and its tenants are looking for people who are energetic, cheerful and people-oriented team workers, who personify VivoCity and share its commitment to offer a world-class experience to both locals and foreigners.
WDA has tailored a Place-and-Train Programme to help tenants recruit, train and retain their new workers at VivoCity. Staff recruited under this programme will undergo specially tailored 30-hour training, aimed at equipping them with industry and service skills and knowledge to raise service standards. Candidates who successfully complete the training under this programme will be awarded Statement of Attainment under the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) for Retail or Food and Beverage. This industry-recognised qualification will also be available to all if they undertake training offered by The Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS), a national retail institute offering WSQ training in retail and service excellence.
"VivoCity offers quality career options for job seekers through its trendsetting mall concept. Job seekers should put aside misperceptions about service jobs and come and find out for themselves what this exciting sector really has to offer," says Kelly Hee, Director (Healthcare, Retail and Business Services) of WDA.
Tenants with the highest numbers of openings include Tangs Department Store, Dairy Farm International, Kopitiam and Page One The Bookshop, who are hiring more than 100 staff each.
