DESIGN CONCEPT

VivoCity is designed by internationally acclaimed Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the man behind the renowned Sendai Mediatheque in Japan, known for his signature-style, which focuses on the utilisation of nature, climate and open spaces. VivoCity is his first major project in Asia outside of Japan, and is set apart from the traditional box format of many existing (and upcoming) retail developments in the region.

The design for VivoCity was inspired by the HarbourFront location of the development, which evokes images of waves in the sea. Each space leads intuitively into the next, creating an enjoyable shopping experience.

Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards 2014 – New Media, Integrated Digital Campaigns - Gold
VivoCity has been awarded Gold for Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards under New Media, Integrated Digital Campaigns. The Great Singapore Sale 2013 - Catch the VivoCity Codeys, VivoCity’s experiential and digital campaign featured a family of four giant QR code mascots who when spotted, provided shoppers the opportunity to “scan” them to receive instant reward vouchers. Other Finalists in this category included Casula Mall, Highpoint and QueensPlaza from Australia and ION Orchard from Singapore.

Marketing Magazine’s Mob-Ex Awards – Best Use of QR Codes – Bronze
VivoCity has been awarded Bronze for Marketing Magazine’s Mob-Ex Awards in the Best Use of QR Codes category. The mobile marketing spectrum, an increasingly important and competitive one, appropriately recognised VivoCity’s marketing efforts in shifting exposure for the brand through digital and mobile platforms. Other Finalists in this category included Lego, Poket, The Republic of Singapore Navy, Singapore Art Museum and United Overseas Bank.

International Council of Shopping Centres’ (ICSC) Asia-Pacific Shopping Centre Awards 2013: Category One (Traditional Marketing) - Finalist
The ICSC Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards recognizes excellence within the region's shopping center industry. VivoCity was recognised for its outstanding achievement in marketing and design/development of its creative concept and positioning. Other Finalists included Megaworld Corporation (Makati City, Philippines), Queen Victoria Building (Sydney, Australia), and StocklandsMerrylands (Merrylands, Australia).

BCA Green Mark (Gold)
VivoCity has been recognized once again for its efforts to provide a seamless and user-friendly environment where people of all ages can enjoy its numerous offerings. The annual BCA Universal Design Awards gives recognition to building owners and architects who have embraced Universal Design in their building and upgrading projects. This award recognised their efforts for being active partners of BCA in creating a seamlessly connected and friendly-built environment that caters to the varying needs of people with different physical abilities.

2013’s record breaking in mid-autumn festival
VivoCity has once again set a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the largest hand-painted lanterns. Shoppers gathered at the Amphitheatre for 2 hours to hand-paint a total of 568 lanterns. In the past, VivoCity has set records for “The Largest Display of Floating Lanterns” and “Most Number of Signatures on a Lantern.”

AsiaOne’s People’s Choice Awards – Best Shopping Centre (Town) – Winner
VivoCity has been voted the Best Shopping Centre at the annual AsiaOne People’s Choice Awards. The other 2 nominees were ION Orchard and Plaza Singapura. Organised by AsiaOne, Singapore Press Holdings’ leading news and lifestyle website, the Awards is a testament to the popularity and acceptance of the nominated brand names and products by the website's audience. Marketing Magazine’s Marketing Excellence Awards – Excellence in In-Store Marketing – Gold
VivoCity was awarded Gold for Excellence in In-Store Marketing at the Marketing Excellent Awards 2013. Organised by Marketing Magazine, the “Catch the VivoCity’s Codeys” campaign was held during the mall’s Great Singapore Sale where life-size QR code mascots roved the mall, waiting to be found, scanned and win instant prizes. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in more than 8,000 people scanning QR codes and garnering more than 5,000 “Likes” on VivoCity’s Facebook page.

The MARKies: Best Idea – Retail Category
VivoCity’s 2011 branding campaign “We’ve Got Everything Covered” has been honoured the Best Idea - Retail Category at the Marketing Magazine’s Agency of the Year 2012 Awards. The branding campaign, steered and executed by Mandate Marketing Communications was based on VivoCity’s core strength as Singapore’s largest retail and lifestyle destination. The visual identity was applied across five main tactical promotion demonstrating the immersive all-inclusive experience VivoCity offers to its visitors. The MARKies constitutes Marketing Magazine’s celebration of the most innovative, creative and effective campaigns or projects spanning Singapore’s entire marketing services industry.

Gold Award, Social Enterprise Association Corporate Award 2012
VivoCity is proud to be awarded the Gold Award in the Social Enterprise Association Corporate Award 2012 on 2 November 2012. This is in recognition of its support towards Pop and TALENT Hub (PaTH Market) which was organised by Social Innovation Park (SIP). PaTH Market started at VivoCity since 2007 and is a fair held every first and last weekend of the month where many budding entrepreneurs from the traditionally marginalised groups showcase and retail their products which are largely hand-made.

Most Family-friendly Shopping Mall, Mother & Baby Awards 2012, Singapore
VivoCity has been awarded the Most Family-friendly Shopping Mall in the Mother & Baby Awards 2012. The award was organised by Mother & Baby Magazine, Singapore where readers voted for their favourite family-friendly shopping malls over 2 months.

The Largest Display of Floating Lanterns, VivoCity Mid-Autumn Record-Breaking Event, 2012
Singapore’s largest lifestyle and retail destination, VivoCity, commemorated the popular Mid- Autumn Festival at the Amphitheatre by successfully setting an entry into the Singapore Book of Records together with its shoppers. 1388 Shoppers were brought together to set afloat the lantern at our Sky Park to establish the record-breaking event.

World's Top 10 Retail Destinations, Shopping Center News (India)
VivoCity has been voted as one of the world's top 10 retail destinations by the retail trade publication, Shopping Center News (India). The top 10 malls were identified by seeking the views of industry players and the trade publication hoped that these malls would serve as models to spur India’s shopping centres. Some of the other malls that share the same honours as VivoCity include big names like The Dubai Mall and London’s Covent Garden.

Singapore Service Class, 2011
VivoCity is proud to have attained the Singapore Service Class status in recognition of its efforts in creating a memorable and entertaining shopping experience through providing extraordinary service. The Singapore Service Class is a certification for business excellence which enables organisations to develop their service capabilities to enhance service leadership, service quality, customer delight and customer experience. This accreditation by SPRING Singapore represents VivoCity’s achievement of an excellent niche standard for service which exceeds customers’ expectations.

The Most Number of Signatures on a Lantern, VivoCity Mid-Autumn Record-Breaking Event, 2011
VivoCity managed to set a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for “The Most Number of Signatures on a Lantern” with a total of 1,028 signatures garnered from shoppers on 10 September 2011. Shoppers were encouraged to be part of this meaningful event by registering their interest at any of the Customer Service Counters at VivoCity. The first 1,500 participants with an entry pass received complimentary goodie bags filled with attractive shopping vouchers and a unique lantern on the day of the event. They were also treated to a variety of entertaining performances and games.

3rd Place, Expat Living Reader Awards 2011 – Best Shopping Centre Category
VivoCity was proud to be awarded 3rd place in the Expat Living reader Awards 2011 – Best Shopping Centre Category. The award was organised by Expat Living where readers voted for their favourites in Singapore such as hairdressers, retailers, shopping malls, Sunday brunches, romantic restaurants and more. Voting was conducted over a period of 2 months which ended on 29 October 2011.

VivoCity is proud to be awarded the Corporate Award from Social Enterprise Association on 9 December 2011. Shoppers were encouraged to be part of this meaningful event by registering their interest at any of the Customer Service Counters at VivoCity. The first 1,500 participants with an entry pass received complimentary goodie bags filled with attractive shopping vouchers and a unique lantern on the day of the event. They were also treated to a variety of entertaining performances and games.

Runner-up, Best Shopping Mall, TimeOut 2010 Best of Singapore Awards

VivoCity was the runner-up in the Best Shopping Mall accolade at the inaugural TimeOut 2010 Best of Singapore Awards. The award was organised by the local edition of TimeOut Magazine. The objective of this award was to give their readers an opportunity to vote for their favourite places to eat, dance, rest and play in Singapore, making the country one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in the world.

2nd Place, Expat Living Reader Awards 2010 – Shopping Centre Category
VivoCity was awarded 2nd place in the Expat Living Reader Awards 2010 – Shopping Centre Category. The award was organised by Expat Living where readers voted for their favourites in Singapore such as hairdressers, retailers, shopping malls, Sunday brunches, romantic restaurants and more. VivoCity is proud to be recognised at the 5th South West District Public Health Awards. Judges representing National Environmental Agency (NEA), South West Community Development Council (CDC), Town Councils and Restroom Association Singapore (RAS) found VivoCity to have the cleanest washrooms among competing shopping destinations in the South West District.

VivoCity was a finalist in the Best Shopping Experience category at the inaugural Singapore Experience Awards by the Singapore Tourism Board. Previously, VivoCity was the winner in the Best Shopping Experience – Shopping Mall category of the Singapore Tourism Awards 2008, beating competitors, Paragon and Wisma Atria. The Singapore Experience Awards which brings together the best in the fields of Leisure, Hospitality, Entertainment, Attractions, Business Travel & MICE, and Healthcare services is the most prestigious awards platform in Singapore’s tourism industry.

MAXI Awards, organised by the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) awarded VivoCity once again for its innovative marketing efforts. The “Our Little People” advertising campaign was recognised as a distinct visual language that achieved a singular look. It created a comprehensive brand that worked over a vast amount of tactical event promotions. The ICSC is a global trade association of the shopping industry consisting of 70,000 members across 80 countries.

Skyrise Greenery Award, Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and National Parks Board, 2008
VivoCity’s greening efforts were rewarded when it was conferred the inaugural Greenery Awards. The award, which was jointly presented by the Singapore Institute of Architects and National Parks Board aimed to promote skyrise greenery in Singapore and recognizes the greening efforts in high rise developments by owners/developers, architects, landscape architects/designers, and landscape contract managers. The judging criteria included landscape considerations to enhance Singapore's cityscape and environment quality, as well as originality, creativity and sustainability of the ideas.

Silver, ICSC Asia Shopping Centre Awards, 2008
International Council of Shopping Centre’s Asia Shopping Centre Awards recognized VivoCity’s excellence within the region’s shopping centre industry. It awarded “VivoCity Sparkling Christmas 2007” campaign a Silver under the category, Marketing: Sales Promotion and Events. In celebration of the 2007 Christmas, VivoCity was transformed into a wonderland where shoppers were wowed by the amazing display of the 101 feet tall man-made Christmas tree. The theme depicting a “Sparkling Destination,” aptly positioned VivoCity as having the largest Christmas offerings.

Best Shopping Experience, Singapore Tourism Awards, 2008
In its first full year of operation, Singapore’s iconic retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination, VivoCity won the Best Shopping Experience – Shopping Mall category, at the annual Tourism Awards. VivoCity topped the category ahead of Paragon and Wisma Atria. As Singapore's largest, most iconic multi-dimensional retail and lifestyle destination, VivoCity constantly stimulates and surprises visitors with vibrant and refreshing mix of more than 300 retail, food and beverage and entertainment outlets, of which, more than 20% are new-to-market concepts.

To honour and give recognition to the best in print advertisements and raise awareness of creativity in the advertising industry, VivoCity was honoured with a finalist standing in the SPH Ink Awards for its “Where Entertainment Comes Alive” advertising campaign in 2007.

Bronze, Singapore Outdoor Advertising Awards, 2007
VivoCity’s passion for excellence and innovation was also recognised at the 2007 MAXI Awards in New Orleans. Its launch advertising campaign, "Where Entertainment Comes Alive", was acknowledged as a Silver Award winner. VivoCity was the only shopping destination in South East Asia to receive this accolade from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) – the global trade association of the shopping centre industry consisting of 70,000 members across 80 countries.

VivoCity’s passion for excellence and innovation was also recognised at the 2007 MAXI Awards in New Orleans. Its launch advertising campaign, "Where Entertainment Comes Alive", was acknowledged as a Silver Award winner. Another accolade garnered by VivoCity was in the inaugural MIPIM (Marche Internationale de Professional d’Im Mobilier) Asia Awards, where VivoCity was a finalist in the Shopping Centres Category. The award honoured outstanding real estate projects developed in Asia Pacific and was judged by an international jury drawn from the Asian property industry. VivoCity was selected as a finalist out of more than a hundred entries in the Asia region, cementing its leading position in Asia.
